Rattlesden lies in a sweeping valley between the market towns of Bury St. Edmunds and Stowmarket in a decidedly hilly part of Suffolk. It is home to a 13th-century church, St. Nicholas, and has a history linked to navigation and trade along the River Rat. In World War II the now Rattlesden Gliding Club was used by the US Air Force as a heavy bomber base (RAF Rattlesden).
